"The Spiral"
Here is the Spiral in it's home. The picture was
taken by with a flash camera, so you see a bit
of glare on the surface of the shades. What is
particularly interesting to me are the shadow
lines on the ceiling -- I had no preconception
that this would occur, and it is a lovely
and unexpected bonus to the project.

"Living With Crafts 2004"
This is a piece that David Little and I created
for the Living With Crafts exhibition at the
League of NH Craftsmens Annual Craft Fair
in 2004. The piece won the award for best
collaboration, a very nice honor.
This piece is a good example of a more
traditional style that David and I can do.
Similar constructions can be made with 3 or
more shades in various configurations, or
with chandelier-style shades instead of
pendants.
The horizontal cross-bar of this piece is 30"
long and the shades are about 11" in diameter.
This type of piece can look great over a dining
or side table, or a counter or pool table.

"Apple Blossom"
This was an idea that originated with some good clients in Massachussets. They have a particular interest in heirloom apple trees, so when they asked me about an unusual ceiling lamp for their breakfast room, this came to mind. Essentially you are looking at 5 matching sconces radiating out from a central hub that is turned from Mahogany. Coverign the ends of each shade are cut-out pieces from another turned shade form. All of these parts are are attached to a flat painted medallion that sits flush to the ceiling. Each of the sconces is about 10" across, and the total diameter is about 32."
Pieces like this are hard to photograph, since the bright areas kind of overwhelm the ability of the film to capture the detail in surrounding areas.

"Four Leaf Clover"
After making the Apple Blossom, I wanted to follow up by making this four-petaled version which I exhibited at the Living With Crafts exhibition in 2006. Given the exhibit space, the piece could not be applied flush to the right up to the ceiling, so we used brass chains to suspend it in mid-air. Subsequent to the showing at LWC, I installed the Four Leaf Clover in my showroom, and used the same chain suspension system. This is another example of how accidents and serendipity can be very helpful in the evolution of an artistic idea.
The Four Leaf Clover is a bit larger than the Apple Blossom, with each shade being about 13" across and the total diameter of about 40."
